Found Character 8: Bar Napkin Sketch

Image Research

For my character, I was inspired by my earbuds and earbuds case. I then decided to do my research based on some headphones, speakers, earbuds, and inspiration by ticker tape, although I ended up changing this design to more 8-Bit style for the eyes and mouth.

Here are some of the images I referred to for my research.

Bar Napkin Sketch & Character Blurb

My character is a little sound robot that can produce and replicate sounds in a surrounding environment. He uses the sounds as a defense, an attack, or to soothe the environment to be more calming. As I did my quick sketches, I tried to focus on making the design sharp, yet I still made it as detailed as I could. My earbuds case served as the basis for my design, and I attached the headphones to the sides as they are attached to his body, as well as being the sensors to receive sound. I could picture there being rotating circles connecting the arms allowing fine motor control, especially for a smaller robot. The compartment for earbuds do open up, and it can also provide power for any other compartments through linking cables. From performing this exercise, I also discovered that I can better work on my scaling for my characters, as the legs need a little more work to look taller and to fit with the overall aesthetic. I like how I switched/was inspired by the ticker tape to have the eyes emulate 8-Bit graphics. I feel it's neat how I made it look similar to an 80s aesthetic with these small changes to my overall character.
